6 Stories from people who immediately felt bad about having guests over

When you let people into your home, bad things can happen that are awkward, unexpected, or just plain bad. The people who were telling these stories wished they had left the door shut. When they invite someone over again, they’ll think twice.

1. My ex-husband’s mother had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, but her son (my ex) was already there. She didn’t knock; instead, she went into the kitchen, got a glass, and squatted down to use it as a toilet. When I heard the garage door open, I got up to see what was going on. This scared her and she dropped the cup all over the floor.

2. My in-laws didn’t like me. When they got there for Thanksgiving dinner, they told me to leave and come back in a few hours because they wanted to “follow their tradition of cooking the meal alone as a family.” They used to be my in-laws. The Arboretum7 on Reddit

3. My son, who is about 2 years old, was getting an orange or apple for himself. He would take it off the counter, wash it, peel off the sticker, and then eat it or peel it. A guest took his fruit while he was washing it, telling him he was too young to get his own food. I let them know that he can eat some fruit because I showed him how to get a snack. They told him he had to ask first, and when he did, they washed and got the fruit ready for him. My son loves being able to do more things for himself after I teach him how to do them. But they took that away from him and made him beg for something that was already his. ochemimmunohem / Reddit

4. Someone who came to dinner asked to stay the night because of the snow, which wasn’t supposed to happen until much later that night. My husband and I agreed because we didn’t have to work the next day. It was 7:30 in the morning, and guest was freaking out because we hadn’t shoveled his driveway yet. “How am I supposed to get to work on time?!” he asked. What’s Up, Reddit?!

5. I was seeing this guy. Toys were very important to my 2-and-a-half-year-old son. He took one with him everywhere. I didn’t mind because kids like comfort toys, but this guy didn’t like it. My son showed this guy his teddy bear while we were outside on my balcony. He grabbed the bear, threw it off the balcony, and told my son, “Grow up, bears are for babies.”

6. My vanity was a table and a wall mirror next to the front door because I lived in a small house. When we had people over one day, it started to rain. My husband’s cousin came in, grabbed my hairbrush from the hall table, and used it to brush her dry dog. Reddit and Wienerwrld
