It can be hard for blended families to treat all of their children the same. In this case, Madison’s husband asked her daughter to skip a family trip so that the girlfriend of his son could go instead. When they got back, things got worse, which is why Madison asked us for help.

This is the letter from Madison:

They want to bring their new girlfriend with them on our trip to Spain. My husband agreed, but he said he could only afford four tickets, so my 18-year-old daughter has to stay home with us.

I was mad at him for picking a stranger over his stepdaughter, who he had been taking care of since she was 7. He replied, “That stranger is my son’s guest…” Also, you don’t seem to remember that your daughter’s dad is careless and doesn’t pay for her vacations. He might need to step up now.

I didn’t feel strong. We didn’t bring my daughter with us to Spain because I knew her real dad couldn’t afford to go to Europe. My daughter had packed her things and moved in with her dad when we got back. It broke our hearts.

She says I didn’t defend her, so she blames me. I feel terrible and lost. I still can’t believe how mean my husband was and how this terrible thing happened because of him.
