An intensely sad scene: A bereaved mother dog shows heartbreaking sorrow as she tries desperately to retrieve her dead puppy.

In a tragic scene captured on camera, a grieving mother dog obstinately discovers her dead puppy. Kookie drags the male pup out of its makeshift grave by its leg after searching through the closely packed dirt with diligence. With all her might, she licks and prods the tiny corpse, hoping to bring her beloved child back to life.

The owner, Kaye de Luna, notes in the video that Kookie must be grieving over the loss of another puppy because she had already lost one during her first pregnancy. Kookie obviously had feelings for every member of her litter, even the ones that did not make it. It’s an incredibly painful sight to see.

Kookie gave birth to a litter of puppies on May 17, but one of the smallest and weakest puppies passed away the following night. When Kookie realized what had happened, she woke everyone in the house with her loud barking. Without telling Kookie, the owners buried the dead puppy in an unmarked grave in their garden after finding it.

Later, when they took Kookie for a walk in the garden, she went straight to the grave. The owner, Kaye, made the decision to allow Kookie to deal with her puppy’s passing in her own way. In the depressing video, Kaye can be seen sobbing as she observes Kookie lament her dog’s passing.

The well-known video demonstrates that dogs experience grief and loss as well when they lose their puppies. Like all female dogs, Kookie’s natural instinct is to lick and prod her pups. Kookie was going through her own kind of closure, so she dug up her dead puppy for one last try at resuscitation.
