True love is something that some dogs never experience. Rather, they spent their entire lives attempting to get away from maltreatment and neglect, but tragically, very few are successful.

Dogs who are mistreated are frequently thought to be violent by nature, which encourages more cruelty. Most of them die tragically while waiting to be cruelly put down by their owners.

One such instance is from California, when Ollie, an elderly dog, was going to suffer that terrible destiny. Ollie was terribly aggressive and neglected, and he had little hope in life until a guy came along and gave him a chance!

Ollie was a hopeless case when Sal ValdepeƱa, the creator of Balooja’s Foundation in Upland, California, first encountered him. Due to abuse, this over-15-year-old doggo was quite hostile and would frequently snarl and bark at strangers.

Sal didn’t give up on him, though. Rather, he brought him to his facility where he discovered the ideal foster home along with the ideal mother!

Foster mom and devoted dog lover Cathi Perez was thrilled to have Ollie in her family. He was extremely matted and covered with feces when they first met. To top it all off, Ollie might have had an old broken that prevented him from standing on his own two feet.

“He was a squalid, matted mess, covered in urine and feces, unable to walk and exhibiting extreme aggression, lunging and thrashing at anything that came near him, and he was rapidly approaching the end of his life,” Perez posted on Facebook.

Ollie was always wary, even though he was in his golden years. He would simply lie in his specially made pen and growl at his foster mother for the first few days. He had been treated so poorly in life that he refused to even let Cathi to touch him.

Ollie was given many prescription drugs for pain and anxiety during his first veterinary examination. He was able to stand for a short while on his legs and soon began to feel more at peace. Even while he was still far from perfect, he had clearly improved.

Ollie was able to experience love for the first time because of his mother’s unwavering love and encouragement. He would even let her give him a back pat and clean his pen.

Then he would return to his former self, starting at the beginning. His days were characterized by a never-ending battle between his current situation and everything he had ever known.

“Although he doesn’t always feel it, his medications are kicking in and relieving his pain and anxiety, which is a major factor,” Perez wrote.

Perez had plenty of patience and support available to her in spite of all of that. In his last days, he made the decision to stick with this dog and make him his lifelong friend. She quickly transitioned from being Ollie’s foster mother to her permanent mother!

Sal and Cathi kept up with Ollie’s routine veterinary visits and medication administration. Unfortunately, the veterinarian said that this elderly dog did not have much time left to live.

He undoubtedly had more terrible days than good ones, and he was at the end of his strength to fight the struggle of life. Nevertheless, in his last days, Ollie showed a sliver of optimism that all this attention was not in vain.

His tail was finally wagging, and the sadness in his eyes began to light up with excitement. Ollie realized for the first time in his life that love was all around him. He also understood that his mother’s house was a secure place.

Cathi tried her hardest to make Ollie’s final days unforgettable. Despite his tragedy, he was able to appreciate her unwavering love and affection.

Ollie crossed the rainbow bridge with his mother by his side, content and well-cared for.

Perez posted on Facebook, saying, “His was a tragic life of neglect, abuse, and abandonment but we all rallied to his side, he had a community behind him, he crossed ever so gently, while I whispered I love you.”

Even though Cathi’s loss has hurt her, she is thankful that she could be Ollie’s support system. She is also incredibly appreciative that he had pleasant last memories of this life, since this is how it should have always been.

Peace be with you, excellent man!
