While driving at high speed on a Kentucky road, the motorist noticed something and decelerated. A small brown and white puppy was sitting quietly next to the pavement, chained to a damaged tree. After the motorist called a nearby shelter, a rescue squad raced to get her.

“She was waiting for someone to notice her, sitting there by the tree,” Friends of Lewis County Animals’ Kim Desroches said to The Dodo. I’m quite grateful that the shelter located her and housed her. In actuality, she was discovered not far from the shelter.

The pup, who went by Ladybird later on, was tiny and delicate. She needed to go somewhere, and a large public shelter wasn’t the best option for her. Desroches, an employee of Friends of Lewis County Animals, felt compelled to assist Ladybird as soon as she saw her photo.

“I started asking if any of my volunteers could foster her as soon as I saw her post,” Desroches stated. “A puppy should not truly be placed at a shelter because of the various diseases they can contract there. She was removed by one of the females who went forward.

Her rescuers couldn’t believe someone would just leave Ladybird tied up on the side of the road like that when she was only six or seven weeks old. They were just relieved that she was finally safe, even though no one knew how she got there.

When the shelter picked her up, Desroches remarked, “she was a little scared and unsure.” “She was very much a happy, playful puppy once she settled in.”

Before Ladybird’s rescuers were able to leave her with the Licking County Humane Society, she was briefly placed in foster care. She’s doing fantastic and should be leaving shortly to find her ultimate home.
