It can be both exciting and hard to become a parent for the first time. Many things have changed in parents’ lives as they get used to their new responsibilities. This includes how they are connected to each other. This new mom told a story about how hard it was for her and her fiancé to be together after their first child was born.
This is her story.
Our daughter was born a few weeks ago. When I first held her and looked into her eyes, I cried and said, “I didn’t know I could love someone this much.” She is beautiful and perfect.
My mom told me that feeling would never go away, which made us both cry badly. It was a very important moment.
He was quiet and smiled at me. He told someone later that he was hurt. He told me that he loves both of us the same, but what I said made it sound like I loved our daughter more than him.
He dropped it after I gave him the “are you serious” look. But he brought it up again yesterday.
I told him the truth: “Yes, I love and care for our daughter. I have never felt this much love for another person.” Because of what it meant, he said that most “normal people” would find it hurtful and offensive.
