We all want to be married to someone who is honest and open with their partner. But Lorraine felt like she had to lie to her husband. Because she wanted to save half of her pay for her daughter’s future, she didn’t tell her husband how much she was making. Lorraine and her daughter were both shocked when their husband found out. She went online to ask for help.

This is the letter from Lorraine:

“I’ve been making twice as much since I was promoted four years ago.” I told my husband, but I didn’t want to spend the money on her college instead. We didn’t save any money for Sarah’s college, and she is now 16 years old. Since her real dad isn’t involved, it’s just me and my daughter who have to take care of her.

But my husband just recently found out that I was making more money and told me I had to pay back all the rent he had been paying for years. He was very angry when I said no.

I heard my daughter scream in her room yesterday and ran in to find her closet only half full. A lot of the clothes, beauty products, and other things she bought with her stepdad’s money were gone. “Ask your mom to buy you things; she can afford it now!” read the note my husband had left her.

It breaks my heart and shocks me. What should I do?
