Interviews that are so stupid that hiring managers will probably never forget them

People who want to get a job should show that they are better than other applicants at an interview. On the other hand, some people go too far when they want to impress the recruiter. Here are some more stories like this one from people who hire people.

I used to interview people for a call center. Remember that call centers have a very high turnover rate and are hiring all the time. Anyway, bring in a girl for an interview who is wearing a see-through white undershirt with no sleeves. I could clearly see the leopard print bra she was wearing. The interview will happen again. She pulls out her phone at one point, and I’m shocked. I thought there might be an important matter going on. Until I see her phone flash. She took a picture of me. She then laughed and said, “Oh, I don’t see how that could have happened.” Clearly, they didn’t hire her. That was probably the worst interview I’ve ever had to do. Rnorman3 on Reddit

Someone sent one of our projects as part of their portfolio to the architecture firm where I work. The 3D rendering is exactly the same. It wasn’t even on the business website, so I still don’t understand how she got it. They hired manager just went along with it. Laxice7 on Reddit

A common one I see a lot is a work history that is too big and too qualified, especially if it’s hard or impossible to check. I live in a city with a lot of immigrants, so I meet a lot of people from other countries. Many of them have titles like “Executive Director of Worldwide Distribution” or “Senior Vice President of Global Operations” from a company in Bulgaria, Cambodia, or Dubai that doesn’t have an English website or phone number. I’ve interviewed more than one “CFO” for an entry-level job who had never seen a Profit and Loss bill before. Be careful / Reddit

At my software company, we first talk to potential employees on the phone with technical recruiters to get a feel for them. We chose to interview one candidate in person because they did so well on the phone interview, answering all of our questions with ease. The interview in person went shockingly badly. Even the most basic questions were too hard for the candidate to answer. I finally asked him what was going on after a few failed attempts to make my questions easier. It turned out that we had already talked to his son on the phone, who is a computer scientist. He was just trying to avoid the in-person interview by saying that he had 20 years of experience in construction. His son wasn’t interested in the job when I tried to hire him. I know enough Spanish to get by, and when I was a hiring manager, I would start the interview in Spanish if someone put “fluent in Spanish” on their resume. The kids who had taken Spanish for three years in high school before college looked really scared. ER10years_throwaway on Reddit

Someone came in to interview for a job in a call center. On their resume, it said that they had worked in a call center in town for three years. She was very tired when she got there and couldn’t answer simple interview questions. When someone asked her what she did at Call Center A, she said, “Call center rep.” She said the same thing over and over when asked to explain what her duties were. Not a known author/Reddit
