My husband made me follow a strict new rule.

To build a strong marriage, it’s important to trust, respect, and support each other. But sometimes, one partner may try to control the other, which can lead to instability and tension. This can happen because of mental health problems, insecurities, or power struggles. It can show up in a number of ways, such as being too dominant or manipulative. Recently, someone on Reddit asked the community for help with her husband’s unreasonable request.

This is what she wrote:

“My husband has never done anything so strange before.” His love for me is greater than anything else, and I love him very much. My husband has never been very normal. He’s a computer programmer and very smart, but he also believes a lot of crazy things, some of which are true and some of which are not. I’m used to it… But I was really shocked when he told me the other day that I should only take two showers a week from now on.

His interest in the environment, especially water and how it affects the environment, became very strong about two months ago. He was also worried about how clean the water was. He changed the filters in our house, which I loved because the water tastes so much better. His worry now is about how much water we use. Not because of the money, but because of the Earth!

I like to take a shower every night before bed. The thought of being dirty in bed makes me cringe. So I said no to his idea. He wouldn’t give up, though, and said, “This is our new house rule.”

What else did she say?

“This is the thing that has made our marriage fight the most in twenty years.” But he would turn off the hot water while I was in the shower. At first, I didn’t care about his rule. Because I have kids, going to the gym every night to use the shower is too much work for me. I really believed that he would get better in a month. But he still can’t get past this.

I had to take a shower last night, but I had “hit my quota,” as he says. I told him not to do anything because I was taking a shower. But after about two minutes, he turned off the hot water. I went downstairs, grabbed my towel, and yelled. There’s nothing smarter he’s ever done than telling him this. I also told him I would move in with my parents if he didn’t stop.

Hey guys I love this man, so I feel trapped. I love him very much, but I can’t take this any longer. “Am I making too many threats to leave?”
