We often think we know everything there is to know about our partner until one surprise blows our minds. Before, Jim went through this when he found his wife’s secret bank account. A confrontation turned into a heated argument, and things got worse very quickly. Martin told us his story because he wanted to get some advice.

This is the letter Martin wrote.

“My wife has always been a stay-at-home mom, raising our four kids all by herself.” She didn’t get any money from her parents and didn’t go into a traditional career.

I recently found out something I didn’t expect: she had $57,000 saved in the bank. In secret, she had been running a successful business out of her home.

But it wasn’t like any other business. In her spare time, she had been working in our garage on making unique pet toys and accessories.

What began as a hobby to pass the time turned into a successful online business thanks to social media and word-of-mouth.

When she chose to keep it from me, it hurt me a lot. When I told her I found out, she said, “I’m sorry, but I just couldn’t trust you with my money.” I am sure that you will help your sister’s family, and I believe that you have already done enough for them.

I’ve always thought of myself as taking care of my sister and her three young children, since she’s divorced and I’m her only source of income. But my wife has always been against this.

I told her I deserved half of that money because I was mad. It was my money that she used to start the business; she didn’t have any of her own. She said I didn’t deserve her hard-earned money and threatened to leave with our kids if I didn’t pay her.
